Late Friday Supervisor Sheila Kuehl added Item 53-B to the June 16th Los Angeles Board of Supervisors meeting as an interim urgency ordinance temporarily prohibiting the establishment or expansion of vineyards in the Santa Monica Mountains North Area Community Standards District. (Read the motion) The interim urgency ordinance was introduced with less than 72 hours advanced public notice and will usurp private property owner rights.
County counsel, MARK J. SALADINO, claims “this interim ordinance is urgently needed for the immediate preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare”. (Read the Analysis) It is hard to imagine that vineyards are dangerous to public health and safety. The ordinance is an urgency measure and requires a four-fifths vote by the Board of Supervisors for adoption.
